Best Places to Visit in India in February

February is one of the ideal times to visit almost any place in India. And it’s just not the weather that’s on your side by this time, and the seasons on the brink of a warmer spring, but the calendar this year, that has a long weekend marked over this month that starts on the Valentines, extends itself over  a Monday you shouldn’t  find very hard to overlook, all the way to Mahashivratri on Tuesday. So, here is a  list of the best places to visit in India in February for a holiday to make the most of this month.

1. Kaziranga National Park, Assam

Kaziranga National Park, also included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites is home to two-thirds of worlds one-horned rhinoceros population in the world. Wildlife enthusiasts also find a large number of tigers, elephants, wild water buffalo, and swamp deer. Situated in Assam, Kaziranga lies on the edge of the Eastern Himalayas biodiversity hot spot. Kaziranga is a super amazing place to visit in India in February as it is not too cold and the rains are also not a problem at this time of the year.

2. Nasik, Maharashtra

An almost essential for February, this one has got on its itinerary the Sula Fest! So there is wine, music, dancing, delicacies, shopping, camping, VERO MODA launching their Spring Summer Collection and absolutely no reason why you should miss this.

3. Agartala, Tripura

Agartala is a perfect tourist destination for those looking either for cultural diversity or natural beauty or both. Once home to Manikya kings, Agartala boasts of some architectural masterpieces including Nir Mahal, Ujjayanta Palace and Kunjaban Palace. Jampui hills, Sepahijala and Gondacherra wildlife sanctuary are a nature lovers paradise.This most developed city in the state, it is still a far cry from the metros and hence maintains the best of both worlds. Agartala should be visited in the month of February as this is the last month before it starts moving towards a temperature you’d rather avoid travelling in.

4. Jaisalmer, Rajasthan

With the summer yet to come to the country, Jaisalmer is one of the places to visit in India in February. Jaisalmer being the closest city, is a major tourist spot popular among couples, adventure seekers , and desert safari enthusiasts. This city, located close to Pakistan border is famous for Rajputana havelis and Jaisalmer fort also known as Sonal Quila. Sandstone architecture gives the city its golden hue and therefore the name, Golden City. And that’s not even it – this February, Jaisalmer will be hosting the Jaisalmer Desert Festival, celebrating every possible tint of the cultural festivity that surrounds Rajasthan.

5. Agra, Uttar Pradesh

Though this one remains a staple for most tourist circuits that cover the best of India, there is another reason it’s on the list this February. Taj Mahotsav is a 10-day celebration of art, crafts, cuisines, dance and music by the eastern gate of the wonder itself, Taj Mahal.

6. Gulmargl, Jammu and Kashmir

Surrounded by snow-covered mountains, lush green meadows, deep ravines, evergreen forested hills and valleys, Gulmarg is one of the most famous honeymoon destinations in India. Thrill seekers can be found skiing here in winters while snow lovers can get their heart fill nearly round the year. Unlike its counterparts, Manali and Shimla, this place is yet untouched by large crowds and is ideal for people looking to enjoy a quiet vacation amidst nature. February is one of the last months of winters when you can enjoy skiing in a fully snow-covered Gulmarg.

7. Bir, Himachal Pradesh

February might not be a good time for paragliding, but the weather makes it perfect and the cold winds keep the crowd away for an offbeat experience.

8. Harihareshwar, Maharashtra

Popular as a quiet hill view destination cum beach among the crowd from Mumbai and Pune, Harihareshwar remains a lesser known place for the rest of the country. The most famous landmark in the area is the Lord Harihareshwar temple which makes it a popular destination for religious tourists. The main temple and the Kali Bhairav temple along with many others are fine examples of mixture of Indian and Maratha architecture. February is the last month before summers arrive, so a weekend trip to Harihareshwar makes lots of sense, especially for people staying in Mumbai or Pune.

The spiritual capital of India gathers about a million devotees from all around the country who come for the famous Shiva Temple, that sits on the Ganges’ banks, pleasant and enjoyable at this time of the year.
