A study in the US confirms that a big part of the answer regarding the emotional bond between dogs and humans is found in the chemical called oxytocin, also known as the `bonding hormone’ or `cuddle chemical’. This chemical enhances social skills, decreases blood pressure, lowers stress, anger and depression, as well as boosts immune system and raises tolerance for pain which makes a man healthy and happy . “Dog owners exercise more often, sleep better, report better fitness levels and fewer sick days and visit their doctors less often than people without dogs, while these fluffy creatures also stay healthy and happy around caring owners,” says CV Franklin, a canine behaviorist. But beware! Don’t take canines for granted, they are not just anti-depressants but also victims of depression. “Dogs are increasingly suffering from chronic fatigue due to owners’ busy lifestyle. If neglected, they become lazy , aggressive or starve them selves. It is very important to give time, love and attention to man’s most beautiful companion that gives him unconditional love and empathy ,” says Mahesh KR, a dog trainer.
