Maha Shivratri is an auspicious Hindu festival and celebrated with great splendor and this festival is dedicated to Lord Shiva. In the year 2017, it is observed on evening of 24th February. Worship of Lord Shiva is extremely simple as Lord himself is a simplest deity on planet. A true devotion is only thing required.
It is said that on this day, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married, and bringing together the most powerful forces of the earth and if we worship in a truly devoted manner then all the sins of past Karma and current Karma can be abolished on this evening and night.
Prayer Ceremonies: Shiva Linga, anionic representation of energy and initiation of Universe. It is bathed with water, milk, honey, bel patti (wood apple), flowers and fruits. Don’t offer Tulsi leaves on Shiva Linga. One should observe fast on this day and chant the mantra,”Om Namah Shivaya”
Drinking Thandai: It is not that it is reason to intoxicate which most of the youngsters are doing in the name of Lord Shiva, he had Cannabis Indicia concoction, as he was so immersed in the Bhakti of Lord Rama that he often leaves everything at bay, in order to bring himself to the body form Lord Shiva used to have this. One can make parsada of Thandai at home, a mix of almonds, cannabis and milk known as Thandai and distributed amongst the devotees.
Muhurat: The Chaturdashi begins on February 24 at 21:38 till next day at 21:20.
