Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the top followed leader on Facebook globally with 41.7 million followers.

As the Narendra Modi government completes three years in office, the prime minister takes the cake for being one of the largest users of social media. A study compiled by Burson-Marsteller in January 2017 shows that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the most popular world leader on Facebook, with close to 40 million followers on his personal page and 13.1 million followers on his Prime Minister of India page, which is in third position. U.S. President Donald Trump is the second most popular.
The data also shows that Digital India, Make in India and Swachh Bharat are the most engaged campaigns that have been run by the government.
“This is the new form of public governance,” said Ankhi Das, Public Policy Director, Facebook India, South & Central Asia.
PM Modi’s Facebook page tops the list of followers, his official page – PMO India – ranks third in terms of followers.
The data also shows union ministers Rajnath Singh, Smriti Irani, General VK Singh, Piyush Goyal and Arun Jaitley are the most followed after Modi in terms of interactions. In terms of ministries with highest interaction on Facebook, three ministries – Information and Broadcasting, ministry of external affairs and ministry of railways – have bagged top three spots, the economic times report says.
