Love and War at the same time
Rangoon Story: This film has set up of pre Independent era, when it was war time also. The way of getting freedom to the nation was different for all as Mahatma Gandhi adopted the route of Ahimsa and Subhash Chandra Bose made Indian National Army for it. But in the middle of all, love blossomed and the dare devil actress of the 40s, Julia (Kangana Ranaut) married producer Russi Billimoria (Saif) and he is completely smitten with her beauty and in love with her. But Jamadar Naval Malik (Shahid Kapoor) at the border loves her till death.
Rangoon Review: It is an ambitious project and a triangular love story and it has war in between of the love. The cinematography done by Pankaj Kumar is mind blowing but the music can be bit peppier. The war scenes are there and Bollywood style naach-gana too. The good amount of romance is added by Bhardwaj, as we can see his previous series of works like Omkara, Maqbool and Haider were truly fine works. But here he has made a potpourri of war, love and drama and that has left the viewers bit perplexed and muddled.
As for the acting skills, Saif gives phenomenal performance and both the other actors Shahid and Kangana also done their best in the movie. When she is a child woman or “kiddo” and Saif treated her as an expensive buy and give her life which she always wishes for. Till then she also becomes the heartbeat of patriotic Nawab, loves her in the spirited one. There is a lip lock between Kangana and Saif doesn’t gives anything steamy.
Some dialogues in the movie by Saif like, “We are actors and we know how to convince people” is not true here and the other dialogues from the movie too don’t add vigour or with both. But the see the movie and enjoy the exceptional cinematography.
