In today’s world of social media, where you have hundreds of friends just a click away, you have to be very careful when it comes to choosing your close ones in the lot.
It’s a common saying that one rotten apple spoils the barrel, so it is important to select your close friends. No matter your friends are exciting, invigorating, and intoxicating—but they can also be treacherous.
If you see too many of these signals instead of fireworks, you might want to look for friendship somewhere else.
It’s a good indicator of how they treat people in general. Usually if a person is rude to people around, they are probably a rude person all around.
2. Do not respect your boundaries
Friendship should never mean being uncomfortable and doing things you don’t want to do. Boundaries should be respected. It can be as obvious as ignoring soft no’s, or not stopping when asked, to demanding reasons why. One way people will try to push boundaries is to use silence and disapproval, in order to get you to agree to what they want.
There is nothing wrong with being a child at heart but if your friend isn’t capable of handling some of the basic responsibilities that go along with being an adult, or worse, you should re-evaluate your friendship.
Some people live for drama. They are the folks who go out of their way to stir up controversy whenever things seem a little flat or boring in your life. Life is already dramatic enough, so save yourself the struggle and spend time with someone a little more level-headed.
There is playful, flirty teasing and then there’s backhanded ‘compliments’ and straight-up insults. Disrespect can come in all shapes and sizes, though, and it’s not always easy to read. It can even be about your appearance and lifestyle. Implications can be just as disrespectful as straight-up insults, and they can be sinister and long-held.
