This is a remarkable achievement by the tribal women in Maharashtra and her motto was to make her area defecation free. Her name is Sushila Kurkute and she will be presented by the defecation free award on the Women’s Day, i.e. 8th March.
The award will be given to her by PM Narendra Modi, in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
It has to be noted that Sushila Kurkute, is seven months pregnant but this didn’t stop her, from her mission for making toilets and she has initiated the construction in February itself.
Kurkute lives in Nandgao village in Palghar and now she is the face of Open Free Defecation (ODF) in Maharashtra. It has to be noted that she single handed dug the pit for three continuous days, in order to construct two toilet blocks.
Sushila was working under Swachh Bharat campaign.
Her work is appreciated by Parameswaran Iyer, secretary, Union Ministry of drinking water and sanitation.
